Reel Solutions for Lac du Bonnet

PDFPrintE-mail

The Reel Solutions for Youth Event a huge success!

Twenty five students from Centennial School in La du Bonnet were treated to four hour fishing event on Friday. Provincial Youth Angling Coordinator Don Lamont was on hand to talk to the students about the sport of angling. Helping out Don was regional fisheries manager and Lac du Bonnet resident Doug Leroux. Doug handled the biological and fish habitat questions. Pro  Angler Bob Goodfellow brought his boat down  once again and helped with the seminars as well as overseeing the mini derby. The students arrived at 11 a.m but rain forced the morning presentation inside. After lunch which was supplied by members of the Lac Du Bonnet Wildlife Association the students headed to the government dock to fish for two hours. During that period two walleye were caught and released by the students.

At the end of the fishing all the students were given a soft sided tackle box and tackle provided by Cabela's Outfitters in Winnipeg. Students also went home with brand new rod and reel combos as part of a grant through the Fisheries Enhancement Fund. Baseball caps and other prizes were supplied by Lund Canada as well as Steeltown Ford in Selkirk, all made possible by Bob and his organizing committee of Brian Jack and Vic Hallows.

Looks like the students are already putting the equipment to good use!

"Hi Doug,   Just a quick email to tell you a story.....

One of the students that was at Reel Solutions came up to Peter and I today and told us that he took out his new fishing rod and tackle this weekend and caught 5 fish....he was just beaming.  This is a kid who was among the top three choices on our list when we were considering candidates for the program.

His story made me smileJ

Janice"
