Fishing with the Princess!

PDFPrintE-mail

Fishing with a princess! I get the opportunity to fish with some really great anglers and personalities. Fishing for me is sometimes work related and rarely to I get to go fishing without any hidden agendas. Well I was quite happy to say the least last Thursday when my 6 year old daughter asked if we could go fishing Friday. My 9 year old and I have fished quite a bit but my youngest had never expressed any interest in it. Man was I excited to hear her say . "Hey Dad we could get up bright and early right dad, we could eat McDonalds on the way there right Dad?" We can catch a big fish right Dad"
you betcha! So we decided to head up to Selkirk Manitoba and met up with my friend Kevin to try out the new Husqvarna auger and see if we could get into some nice walleyes . The nice walleyes never came (think Kevin caught 2 eater size walleyes) but we had a blast with the saugers. My little girl stuck it out in minus 44 celcius weather for 7.5 hours. She never complained, when she got bored she sang loud enough for kevin (who was 20 yards away) to hear us or she ran up and down the river. What a day it was for me..I was so proud of her.

I of course lost our bet and had to pull her off the river in the sleigh. Her pink glow jig that she choose herself was the winning lure of the day. So fellow anglers and parents...if you have not taken your kids out this year ice fishing do it..it was the best day of fishing I had in a very long time!
